Instagram launches improved tools for creators

On Thursday Instagram announced the launch of ‘The Creator Lab’ initiative, the second new tool introduced with the aim to help creatives on the app maximise their performance. The Creator Lab initiative is a series of tutorial style videos from a range of the app’s top creators on self expression, community building and long-term growth.

On Monday the app announced a new tag type which will let creators tag collaborators with not just their usernames but their contribution to the image or video from their profile category, detailed underneath within the same tag, as seen below.

Instagram said:

‘As creators collaborate, inspire each other and drive culture forward on Instagram, proper crediting has never been more important. This is especially crucial for marginalized and underrepresented creators and collaborators whose contributions are often behind the scenes.’

The platform was also spotted testing a new save button on reels to simplify the process of saving videos for users.

Twitter tests profile shops

After testing a shop module for professional profiles in the summer of last year and live shopping last November, Twitter has now expanded its efforts to integrate e-commerce into the app and begun live testing ‘Twitter Shops’ with select merchants.

Twitter stated in a blog post:

‘With Twitter Shops, merchants can handpick a collection of up to 50 products to showcase to shoppers on Twitter. The feature, which is free to use, gives people the chance to view products from the profiles of their favorite brands, so when you talk about and discover products on the timeline, you can now browse them on Twitter, too.’

Twitter also began testing a new Creator Dashboard in the app for iOS users this week which will add further improvements to monetisation for creators on Twitter by allowing them to track the money they make through the platform's existing tools. Twitter made a statement to Social Media Today saying it:

‘is designed to help creators further understand how they make money on Twitter and how much they are earning from monetization features, Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows. Easily accessible from the Monetization tab, the dashboard is a clear way for creators to search through their payment history and see details about upcoming payouts.’

TikTok adds saved videos icon

TikTok has added a new metric this week, showing the app’s video creators how many people have saved their videos.

The platform also began beta testing a program in the US and Canada to allow crypto advertising in-app according to Marketing Brew. Crypto companies who are registered with the necessary regulatory bodies would be allowed to run paid ads targeting those 18 and over on TikTok if the program moves forwards.
