Name: Laura Davis

Job Title: Facebook Ads and Social Media Strategist / Co-founder of “The Hub - Online support for social media managers”

Tell us about your marketing history. How did you get started?:

I got started by having a business that needed marketing. So my background isn’t marketing degrees etc but trial and error! I had a business for 5 years and LOVED the marketing and in particular social media. I was quite good at it ☺️. I got continuous work and social media (and a little email marketing) was the only form of marketing I did. Other businesses started to ask for

Social media help and that was the start of setting up as a freelance social media pro. Since then I’ve established a successful freelance career in social media and Facebook Ads. I am also a co-founder of “The Hub - Online support for Social Media Managers”. We have a bustling community of freelance social media managers and offer tools and training to help.

Can you tell us more about why you started your community?:

I was inspired by the lack of support for freelance social media managers. There were lots of people training on how to be social media managers but not how to set up a sustainable business. So we developed ways to help and started to build a community on Facebook.

What do you love most about social media: The community! Social media gets a lot of bad press but the communities I have built and been part of have bought me so much value, support and friendship.

Favourite social media platform: Facebook 100%

Top tip: Stick at it! 😂 Social Media can be really tough going some days! Ride through it. 💪🏻

What does your day to day work consist of?: I split my time between my freelance work and The Hub. The hub is very varied but my freelance work is 80% stuck in Facebook Ads Manager. I love it all.

What challenges do you face within your role?: Time! I’m a busy mum of three and running two businesses so time and being able to switch off and walk away is ALWAYS a challenge. It’s a good job I love that I do. 🙂

Are there any tools you use to make your job easier?: Slack! We love slack to chat with our team. It’s so good for open communication when we don’t work in the same office!

As there are so many changes to social media, how do you keep up to date with the latest information?: Through being in the right communities and knowing where to look. Having notifications turned on helps 😅

For someone looking to get into a social media role, where would you advise them to start?: We have a few blogs on this but we’d totally recommend reaching out to us at The Hub.

What's been your best social media success story to date (Can be your own or client) and why?: Building The Hub community has been pretty amazing but also generating leads for a client which resulted in £1.2m in sales is one I’ll always remember 😊

What has been your favourite social media campaign (Big or Small) this year so far and why?: I love anything that results in fundraising wins! The accidental successes.

Finally, what would you like the future of social media to be?: To be an honest environment - less false promises, less buying followers and engagement pods! I’m not sure if that’s unrealistic though 😌
