Social Day Speaker Spotlight - Mitchell Platt
Joining us on the Social day Festival 2020 stage is Mitchell Platt, General Manager UK, Growth Tribe with his keynote ‘Growth Marketing Power Session’.
You can learn more about the session below, and if you want to see what Growth Tribe are up to, click here.
Can you provide us with a brief overview of your marketing history and how you have progressed to be in the position you are now?:
I studied law at University and finished knowing the only thing I didn't want to be was a lawyer! I then fell into marketing. Initially working with three others (from a garage, literally) across marketing, sales, customer service etc and have never looked back!
What is the name of your keynote for Social Day 2020?:
Growth Marketing Power Session
What will you be focusing on and how will our audience benefit from it?:
We'll be exploring the differences between traditional marketing and Growth Marketing with a focus on the mindset and methodologies of rapid experimentation. I'll do this via use-cases that people can take away and apply on their own businesses.
What will be the key takeaways from your keynote?:
That Growth Marketing is a mindset and a process
What do you love most about Social Day Festival?:
I'll have to answer that when I come - I've not been before!
What’s the most exciting thing you've seen in social media in the last 12 months?:
I love how more and more brands are embracing the personalities of the people who manage the comms. It's a breath of fresh air vs the shiny marketing material published elsewhere!
What challenges do you feel you may be facing in the coming years with your role?:
Keeping current with the rate of change (skills, tools, tech etc) is always a challenge. Luckily, we're well placed as an education company!
What's been your best social media success story to date and why?:
At my first job, Perkz (now Reward Gateway), we had a high CPA for decisions makers in HR. We decided to experiment going direct to employees via FB and it worked! People were giving us their HR dept details and a little testimonial as to why they needed employee benefits!
What has been your favourite social media campaign (Big or Small) in the last year and why?:
I loved the Marmite DNA test. This was Omnichannel but the social stir it created was amazing!
Finally, what would you like the future of social media to be?:
I think data transparency is essential for the medium to continue. People don't read T&Cs so use/value needs to communicated/rewarded in a more creative way. People are happy to give away personal info and I think those who are open about what they do with that will win in the long run!
