Clubhouse opens its doors to all users

Clubhouse is officially out of its invite-only beta phase and open to all users on iOS and Android. That means the wait is over for the many users on the platform’s waitlist, who will now be automatically welcomed alongside other new users downloading the app for the first time. Despite competition from Twitter’s Spaces, Clubhouse’s growth has been incredibly impressive since it launched, with more than half a million rooms created in just 16 months and more than 10 million Android downloads in just 2 months when the app moved out of its iOS-only phase.

TikTok introduces new ad format Spark Ads

TikTok has introduced a new native ad format that lets companies sponsor their own organic content or content from creators. Spark Ads allow brands to capitalise on the authentic content that TikTok thrives on, boosting their presence and intergrating them into the TikTok community more seamlessly. Spark Ads also enable TikTok’s popular Duet features, making sponsored content easier for users to engage with and share.

YouTube adds new features including members-only chat features and Super Thanks tipping option

It’s been a busy week for YouTube with the announcement of a ton of new features, including members-only chat features and a new tipping option called Super Thanks. Its members-only chat features now include live polls, which allow streamers to interact with and gain feedback from followers in real-time, a new Clips tool, which allows members to share the best moments of a video with other YouTube viewers and on third-party platforms, and finally a new option to limit chats to subscribers only. The latter aims to help streamers create a safer and more relevant chat environment, fostering a greater sense of community and connection. The platform’s new Super Thanks feature will also build on this closer relationship between fans and creators, allowing users to tip their favourite YouTubers by purchasing Super Thanks between $2 and $50.

TikTok adds new livestream features including live guests and on-screen Q&As

TikTok has added some new features to its livestreams, including live guests, scheduled events, and on-screen Q&A overlays. With live guests, creators can livestream alongside other users and creators in a split-screen format. With scheduled events, creators can now create event cards for upcoming livestreams, which can then be shared on TikTok and across other platforms, allowing fans to plan for and join events easily. And finally, with on-screen Q&As, livestreamers will be able to engage with fans more seamlessly by responding to questions that get asked in real-time and display them on-screen as an overlay.
