Twitter launches initial test of livestream shopping broadcasts

Twitter has become the latest of the social media platforms to explore livestream shopping, this week announcing it is testing the feature. Its initial test is in collaboration with Walmart, where they’ll be kicking off Cyber Week on November 28th with a shoppable livestream featuring Jason Derulo. Though its first brand test waited until now, Twitter has been developing a range of in-stream shopping options over the last year and has dabbled in social commerce in the past, including testing a Shop module for business profiles earlier this year.

Lush ‘quits’ social media and calls for greater safety measures from the platforms

The ethical cosmetics company Lush has said it will be deactivating most of its social media accounts from Friday until the platforms “take action to provide a safer environment” for users. Lush’s Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat pages will all be shut down, including any localised accounts in the 48 accounts the company operates in, such as the Lush Cosmetics North America Instagram page which has 4 million followers. It will, however, continue to operate on Twitter and YouTube until it builds “better channels of communication elsewhere”.

Here’s what SocialDay speaker Hannah Anderson thought of the move:

TikTok promotes ‘CommunityToks’ to highlight its broad range of communities

TikTok is focusing on marketing itself as a platform for communities with its new ‘CommunityToks’ push. In an article posted to its TikTok For Business blog, the platform has outlined how CommunityToks “create safe spaces for authentic connection, creativity and joy” for its users. With the number of TikTok users ever-growing, so too does the number of niches, passions and lifestyles on the platform, leading to, TikTok says, a greater sense of inclusivity and belonging to the communities it hosts.

Instagram launches live test of longer videos in stories

Instagram has launched a live test of 60-second videos in stories. This means that videos will no longer be split into 15-second segments across story frames, instead being played as one seamless video. Instagram says the feature has been “highly requested” by its community of creators, brands and users.
