Facebook and Twitter earnings: Social media takes the stage -Forbes

Earnings are in full swing this week and technology investors who hold any of the nation's major social-media companies are likely preparing for a hectic few days. Facebook (FB) and Twitter (TWTR), two platforms on which millions of investors and non-investors alike share their memories, gripes and sometimes everyday mundane doings through posts and tweets, are opening their books this week.

Both social-media giants reported double-digit revenue growth in Q1 as their active users numbers climbed, helping to rev up advertising dollars. Facebook is at the top of the mountain in both users and ad revenue, and Twitter looks to be holding its own, but on a smaller scale.

Snap adds 13 Million daily active users over the last quarter - We R SM

Snap continues its growth, adding 13 million daily active users (DAUs) to Snapchat over the last quarter.

Sometimes we may forget about Snap, but the company continues to grow. They added 13 million DAUs over the last quarter, bringing the total number of users around the world to 203 million.

These numbers are really good news for Snap as they represent the highest numbers the company has shared since it went public.

Why news UK halved the number of podcasts it produces - Digi Day

In an effort to focus its resources with fewer, more specific shows, News UK cut the number of podcasts it produces in half, to 22 last year. One year in, the result: Double the collective downloads and triple the ad revenue.

“People want high-quality, distinctive shows,” said Jimmy Buckland, managing director of Wireless Studios, which has 11 people working on audio production and monetisation for News UK. “Brands like talking to passionate people. In order to deliver meaningfully for advertisers, podcast brands individually need to get to a level of scale. It’s better to have 10 shows with 100,000 listens per episode rather than 40 shows with 10,000.”

Social media companies are failing to stop the spread of terrorism online - The Hill

The Christchurch terrorist exploited the extraordinary power of social media to broadcast his message of violence and hate across the world. As he brutally murdered 51 people and wounded 49 more in two mosques in New Zealand, his livestream on Facebook ran uninterrupted—and before it was ultimately pulled down from Facebook, it was quickly posted and shared millions of times across Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms.

This is the new age of terrorism, defined by the rise of extremist communities online and terrorists who carry out real-life violence inspired by virtual content. And every time a successful terrorist attack is broadcasted online, it risks inspiring copycats attempting to unleash similar terror in their own communities.

Macy's pulls portion control plates after social media users claim they support eating disorders - Fox News

Macy’s vowed to remove a set of dinner plates from all stores after receiving backlash on social media from users who claimed the design promoted body shaming and eating disorders.

The plates in question show three circles meant to show portion size. The smallest circle says “skinny jeans,” the medium-sized circle says “favourite jeans,” and the largest circle says “mom jeans.”

“How can I get these plates from Macy’s banned in all 50 states,” Ali Ward, a CBS science correspondent, tweeted Sunday above an image of the plate set.
