Facebook ramps up plans for its metaverse

Facebook has announced further developments in its transition towards becoming “a metaverse company”. In an announcement by Facebook, it was confirmed that it will be enlisting the help of 10,000 new employees across the EU to help build its metaverse, which it says will help unlock access to “new creative, social and economic opportunities”. It also appears that Facebook is planning to change its company name as soon as next week to reflect this shift in direction, with Zuckerberg planning to discuss it at the company’s upcoming annual Connect conference on 28th October.

Snapchat launches new AR content studio ‘Arcadia’

Snapchat has launched Arcadia, a brand new AR content studio that the company hopes will help brands take the leap into AR campaigns. Arcadia will provide direct connection between brands and world-class AR experts, who will support them in creating campaigns that will stand out on Snapchat and win them successful, even viral moments. The studio will also help brands create experiences that can be used beyond Snapchat itself, encouraging them to embrace this technology of the future in their wider strategies.

Instagram tests longer videos in Stories

Instagram is testing new, longer video uploads in Stories, potentially allowing users to post videos of up to a minute long without them having to be cut into smaller chunks. This will in theory allow users to upload full Reels slips to Stories, increasing their shareability and engagement.

Twitter announces inclusive advertising initiative ‘#TwitterPrism’

Twitter has announced a new initiative that aims to help maximise inclusion and fair representation in advertising on its platform. #TwitterPrism is designed to help marketers “create campaigns that are rooted in culture and centre diverse, intersectional voices.” The initiative will involve offering market insights support to educate brands on aspects of communities they want to engage with, conducting cultural context workshops, and more.

Instagram adds new collaboration and music options for feed posts and Reels

Instagram has launched a couple of new features this week. The first is a new ‘Collabs’ option that will allow users to invite other users to collaborate on feed posts and Reels. If they accept, then the content will essentially be co-authored, being shared on both profile grids and with both sets of followers.

Instagram’s second new feature is a set of music-focused creator tools. The platform is now rolling out ‘Superbeat’, which adds effects to videos aligned with the beat of a song, as well as ‘Dynamic’ and ‘3D’ lyrics which will provide creators with new ways to display song lyrics during video clips.
