The Future of Social Media, Experts Share What They'd Like to See In The Future

As Social Media Marketers we’re expected to keep upto date with trends, platform changes, algorithms and new features we definitely did not ask for!

A lot of the time the gifts the social networks give us aren’t exactly on our shopping list. It may just be wishful thinking but we asked a few experts what they would like to see in the future on social media.

More transparency around what gets shared, and why. We know how powerful these platforms can be, and a lot of the time, they can act as inadvertent gatekeepers for how many people get to see a piece of content.

The more we know about content evaluation, the more we can do to remove biases and ensure everyone has an equal chance at engagement.

I'd actually like to see the sort of thinking that goes into great social campaigns being used more in other mediums - TV, OOH etc. It's slowly going there with special build billboards etc, but would like to see it go even further.

True interoperability and decentralisation, which to be honest I think it quite a way off.

Really geeky, but it needs regulation. Working in the media industry, we're beholden to strict guidelines to make sure people can trust us.

Misinformation across social media networks has influenced massive political change (like Brexit) and as a result any advertising on social media should be held to the same standards as any other paid platform

Improved education of and better tools to support social media analysis.

Over to you! What would you like to see in the future of social media?
