Meta premiers new VR building tools
Meta’s Horizon VR Worlds project has previously been described as central to its Metaverse vision. On Wednesday Meta released a demo of the in-development ‘Builder Bot’ process which would give all users, no matter their technical experience, the ability to create their own interactive 3D environments and then invite others to them in the Horizon Worlds.
This comes as Meta develops a series of Metaverse-related projects such as 3D scanning tools and the CAIRaoke project.
Facebook expands Reels
This week Meta also made another move in its competition against TikTok and fully launched Reels on Facebook, making them available to 150 more regions.
Facebook Reels also include remix options, Story sharing options, Reels drafts, video clipping options and a 60 second length to match Instagram.
YouTube introduces new analytics insights for Shorts
YouTube has added new insights for music creators with official artist channels on the platform. Musicians will now be able to find insights in YouTube Analytics, showing them the popularity of their songs in Shorts clips over the previous 28 days, among other stats.
Reddit adds new Stories-like editing tools
The platform announced via Reddit blog that it’s in the process of launching new visual editing tools that will let users customise their images or videos prior to posting.
The blog post read:
‘To make it easier to post images directly to Reddit, next week those adding images on iOS will have the ability to crop, rotate, or markup images with text, stickers, or drawings. Next up is Android, so stay tuned for more updates’
LinkedIn develops new analytics features
In its push to support creators on the platform (considering the rise of the LinkedIn influencer), the app announced in a post by Chief Product Officer, Tomer Cohen, that it’s working on users being able to get analytics on individual posts and overall performance specific to both content and audience.
Other planned developments mentioned in the post include a more personalised inbox with notifications having better relevancy to users, the Podcast Network pilot, potential NFTs in the app, a laughing emoji post reaction option and more ways for users to curate their feed experience - following the turning off political content feature announced earlier this month.
