The Ask tab turns search into summarised answers
Reddit launched an Ask tab in search results on September 2, 2026, giving a subset of global users access to AI-generated summaries that answer queries with information pulled from posts and comments across the platform. The new tab sits alongside All, Posts, Communities, Comments, Media, and Profiles.
Product or category queries such as "best noise-canceling headphones" or "best moisturizer for sensitive skin" now trigger a related products carousel at the bottom of results, with each product linking to a deep dive. The feature draws on Reddit's 15-second video ad strategy of meeting users where purchase decisions are already forming.
The tool uses generative AI and other in-house technology to create summaries of existing posts and comments across communities. It's available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, French, and German.
The Ask tab isn't Reddit's only AI search experiment. The platform tested a separate feature called Reddit Answers in December 2024, which provided conversational summaries in response to user questions, though that tool launched separately and remains in limited rollout.
Shopify integration automates catalog syncing
Reddit opened its Shopify integration to all advertisers globally in late August 2026, following testing that began in March, allowing merchants to link their Reddit Ads account to a Shopify storefront and track conversions via a codeless Pixel.
The integration automatically updates product details on Reddit, including images, live pricing, descriptions, and inventory levels. The tool simplifies catalog and pixel setup for new Dynamic Product Ad advertisers, automatically matching products to the right users and context.
Reddit first tested Dynamic Product Ads in April 2024, then rolled them out to all advertisers the following year. The ads drove an average of 91% higher return on ad spend year over year in the final quarter of 2025. Liquid I.V. reports DPA already accounts for 33% of its total platform revenue and outperforms its other conversion campaigns by 40%.
The Shopify rollout follows Reddit's existing Shopify integration launch, which The Sauce covered in August as the platform moved the tool from alpha to general availability.
Collection Ads add lifestyle imagery to product tiles
Reddit launched Collection Ads in March 2026, a new Dynamic Product Ad format that pairs a lifestyle hero image with shoppable product tiles in one carousel, bridging discovery and purchase. Early adopters following best practices saw an 8% ROAS lift.
Reddit is also testing Community and Deal overlays, which add labels such as "Redditors' Top Pick" and automatic discount callouts that surface social proof and pricing signals. The "Redditors' Top Pick" label converts Reddit's community endorsement patterns into a visible trust indicator at the point of ad exposure, a signal type unavailable on other social platforms.
This new integration makes it even easier for businesses of all sizes to unlock performance on Reddit with codeless pixel and catalog syncing.
Harish Balasubramanian, Director of Product, Ads Growth at RedditWhy the 40% shopping conversation growth matters
Reddit reports a 40% year-over-year increase in the number of high-intent shopping conversations on the platform. 84% of Reddit shoppers feel more secure in their purchases after researching products on the platform.
Ads placed in relevant subreddits drove up to 16 times higher purchase intent than keyword-based targeting alone, according to Reddit and WPP Media's June 2026 study The Mission Mindset: How Human Conversations Build Buyer Confidence.
The platform's commerce strategy is to monetise that research behaviour by turning product discussions into ad inventory that drives traffic and conversions back to advertiser owned sites. Unlike TikTok Shop's transaction layer, Reddit is positioning itself as a purchase research channel rather than a checkout destination.
The Ask tab rollout came roughly a month after Reddit began testing an AI-powered search feature that pairs community recommendations with shoppable results; queries such as "best noise-canceling headphones" surface product carousels drawn from items mentioned in posts and comments, alongside pricing and images, with tapping a product revealing more details and directing users to the retailer's site.
What changes for social media marketers
The Ask tab compresses Reddit's traditional search experience into a summary layer, which means product mentions in posts and comments now feed directly into purchase research paths without requiring users to click through multiple threads. Brands that treat Reddit as an awareness channel may be undervaluing the platform if their products are already being discussed in high-intent subreddits.
Collection Ads close a creative gap in Reddit's ad suite. Previously, the platform's inventory leaned toward awareness and consideration rather than product-level discovery. The new format lets advertisers present context alongside direct shopping intent in a single unit, which suits Reddit's community-driven discovery environment.
The Shopify integration lowers the technical threshold for DTC brands to test Reddit as a performance channel. If catalog setup and pixel implementation were barriers, those are now automated. That shifts the question from "can we get this working" to "does Reddit fit our media mix", which is a more useful threshold for budget allocation.
Reddit's commerce push differs from other platforms in one critical way: it monetises existing behaviour rather than creating a new transaction layer. Social commerce infrastructure typically tries to shorten the path to checkout. Reddit is betting that owning the consideration and comparison phase, then handing off the transaction, is the higher-value position. Whether that holds depends on how well brands can attribute conversions to a platform where purchase intent is forming but not completing.
