TikTok adds 6-second view-through optimisation to Pulse Core for the first time
TikTok has launched View+ for Pulse Core, a new feature that allows advertisers to optimise for 6-second view-through rates on Max Pulse and Category Lineup campaigns, adding a performance layer to what has traditionally been a brand impact product.
The feature is currently available via allowlist in the US and Canada.
While TikTok Pulse Core has traditionally focused on brand impact through adjacency next to the top 4% of trending, brand-safe user-generated content, View+ adds a new performance layer by helping advertisers reach attentive users who are likely to watch their ads longer.
Advertisers can activate View+ for Pulse Core by toggling it on at the ad group level in TikTok Ads Manager.
What View+ actually changes
View+ is a secondary optimisation goal setting that drives 6-second view-through rates for ads. It sits inside the existing Pulse Core infrastructure, but shifts the campaign objective from reach and brand awareness towards a measurable engagement threshold.
Pulse Core runs ads adjacent to the top 4% of user-generated content based on the Pulse Score, with videos before and after the ad evaluated by the TikTok Inventory Filter using the Limited Tier for brand suitability.
Until now, that adjacency delivered brand lift. Pulse ads watched at least 75% of the way through generate 8% higher unaided ad recall versus partially skippable ads, and campaigns that include TikTok Pulse drive an average 6.8% lift in awareness.
View+ keeps that context, but optimises for users who will hold attention for at least six seconds. That distinction matters. The 6-second hold rate is TikTok's primary algorithmic signal for distribution and the strongest predictor of conversion performance.
View+ adds a new performance layer by helping advertisers reach attentive users who are likely to watch their ads longer.
TikTok Q2 2026 Product PreviewIn practical terms, View+ makes Pulse Core targetable not just by content adjacency, but by predicted viewer behaviour. The platform already knows which users are more likely to watch an ad past the six-second mark. Now it can allocate Pulse inventory towards those users when View+ is toggled on.
Why this matters for social media marketers
Pulse Core was reservation-based, premium inventory designed for awareness. High CPMs, limited scale, and a Reach objective made it unsuitable for performance buyers who needed cost-per-action efficiency and volume.
View+ changes the economics. It does not turn Pulse into an auction product, but it does allow performance marketers to justify the premium on attention quality rather than reach alone.
The 6-second threshold is not arbitrary. It aligns with TikTok's engaged view attribution window, the point at which the platform considers a user to have meaningfully consumed an ad. View+ optimisation is ideal for advertisers who want to maximise 6-second view-through rates for Reach and Frequency campaigns for a marginal CPM increase.
For brands running full-funnel strategies, View+ creates a middle layer. Brand safety adjacency at the top, conversion-focused Standard or Smart+ campaigns at the bottom, and now a performance-aware awareness buy that bridges the two.
The bigger picture: blurring brand and performance
The introduction of View+ continues a wider platform trend towards collapsing the distinction between brand and performance advertising.
TikTok's Q2 2026 Product Preview bundled innovations into three sets, including new controls for Smart+ automation, a performance-focused update to TikTok Pulse, and commerce solutions designed to reduce setup friction and improve product visibility.
View+ sits inside that performance-focused Pulse update. It allows advertisers to retain the premium brand environment Pulse guarantees while optimising towards a user action that correlates with downstream conversion.
Research consistently shows that brand awareness and performance are linked, not opposed. Brands with high awareness achieve 2.86 times higher conversion rates than those with low awareness, and even a modest jump from 30% to 40% awareness led to 43% more efficient performance.
View+ operationalises that relationship. Instead of choosing between adjacency and optimisation, advertisers get both in the same buy.
What to do on Monday
If you are already running Pulse Core campaigns in the US or Canada, request allowlist access to View+ through your TikTok sales representative. Expect the feature to roll out more widely as TikTok tests performance across different verticals and campaign structures.
For those not yet using Pulse, View+ makes the product more defensible in a performance-focused media plan. The premium remains, but the trade-off is clearer: you are paying for brand-safe adjacency to the top 4% of content, and for users statistically more likely to watch past the point where engagement turns into intent.
Set a clear hypothesis before testing. If your goal is pure reach or awareness, standard Pulse Core may still be the better option. If you are trying to drive consideration or move users towards a conversion action, View+ gives you an optimisation lever that did not exist inside Pulse until now.
Track 6-second view-through rate as the primary in-platform metric, but layer in your own conversion data. The real test is not whether View+ increases VTR (it will, by design), but whether those six-second viewers convert at a higher rate than users reached through standard Pulse or auction inventory.
Finally, consider View+ as part of a sequencing strategy. Use it to identify high-attention users within the Pulse environment, then retarget them with conversion-focused creative in a separate campaign. That approach maximises the value of the premium placement without forcing Pulse to do work it was never designed for.
View+ does not replace performance campaigns. It makes brand-safe awareness buys accountable to a performance signal for the first time. That is a structural change worth testing, especially for marketers who have avoided Pulse because the ROI case was too weak to justify the CPM.
