TikTok View+ lets advertisers optimise for 6-second views on Pulse Core premium placement

TikTok introduced View+ for Pulse Core in its Q2 2026 Product Preview, a new feature that allows advertisers to optimise for 6-second view-through rates on Max Pulse and Category Lineup campaigns. While TikTok Pulse Core has traditionally focused on brand impact through adjacency next to the top 4% of trending, brand-safe user-generated content, View+ adds a new performance layer by helping advertisers reach attentive users who are likely to watch their ads longer.

It's a small toggle with a clear commercial purpose. View+ gives brands running Pulse campaigns a way to layer a performance goal on top of a placement strategy built for brand safety and cultural relevance. Where Pulse Core guaranteed your ad would sit after verified top-tier content, View+ now lets you also optimise for viewers who'll actually watch it for six seconds or more.

View+ is currently available for Pulse Core Max and Category Lineups via allowlist in the US and Canada.

What View+ does (and where it fits)

View+ is a secondary goal that drives 6-second view-through rates for your ad. Advertisers can activate View+ for Pulse Core by toggling it on at the ad group level in TikTok Ads Manager.

TikTok Pulse Core offerings place your ads in-feed immediately after a brand-safe video from the top 4% of user generated content. The top 4% threshold is determined by the Pulse Score, a proprietary ranking system that evaluates engagement, recent growth, and brand suitability daily.

Pulse Core offers four lineup types. Max Pulse places ads next to the top 4% of content on TikTok based on the Pulse Score across all content categories for maximum available reach, while Category Lineups feature the top trending TikTok content based on the Pulse Score across a variety of pre-identified categories (Beauty & Personal Care Pulse, Sports & Recreation Pulse, and others) that enable brands to build brand association with a specific content genre. Seasonal Lineups feature the top trending TikTok content during key seasonal moments such as Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season, while Custom Lineups are bespoke lineups of TikTok's top trending, brand-suitable content, curated with the help of Generative AI to fit specific marketing needs.

View+ is available only on Max Pulse and Category Lineups. Seasonal and Custom Lineups currently do not support the feature.

Why the 6-second metric matters

Six seconds is a recognised threshold for meaningful video engagement, particularly on short-form platforms. In 2026, a Kantar and TikTok co-published study tracking 4,200 campaigns across 18 markets found that Spark Ads with creator-native hooks in the first 1.5 seconds achieved 6-second view-through rates averaging 64.7%, compared to 25.2% for non-Spark formats, with the food and beverage category leading at 71.4%.

That benchmark makes View+'s placement useful. It tells you whether people are watching your ad long enough to absorb a message, not just whether it loaded in their feed. And for brand campaigns running on premium placements like Pulse, proving attention is becoming as important as proving reach.

The feature also acknowledges a structural tension advertisers have been voicing more loudly: brand safety and performance have, until recently, lived in different budget lines. Pulse Core solved for the former. View+ attempts to serve both goals in a single campaign.

Where this sits in TikTok's wider Pulse strategy

The TikTok Pulse suite allows advertisers to build cultural relevance by placing ads in-feed immediately after the platform's top trending and most premium brand-safe content resonating most with audiences. TikTok Pulse suite includes a range of offerings tailored to different advertising needs across reach, relevancy, and predictable content adjacency.

Beyond Pulse Core, the suite now includes three additional products. Pulse Premiere gives advertisers the opportunity to place their ads next to the most relevant and suitable premium content from top publishers across sports, entertainment, and lifestyle. Premiere publishers are available for targeting during specific tentpole events, to show up around official content about the moment or event, or for an always-on presence throughout the year. Pulse Mentions places you next to the exact moments when people are actively talking about your brand and category, allowing you to shape high-intent conversations as they happen. Pulse Mentions is now available to US-based advertisers and will be available to select Canada-based advertisers in Q2 2026. Pulse Tastemakers lets you place your ads immediately after videos from a hand-selected group of creators. The new solution is designed to build strong brand associations and tap into the power of creators to win over new audiences. Pulse Tastemakers will be available to select US-based advertisers in Q2 2026 and select Canada-based advertisers in Q3 2026.

TikTok Q2 2026 Product Preview

View+ sits only within Pulse Core, specifically Max Pulse and Category Lineups. That restriction signals TikTok's prioritisation: performance optimisation is being layered onto the largest-reach, highest-volume parts of the Pulse suite, not the newer or more curated inventory types like Pulse Mentions or Tastemakers.

What it means for social media marketers

View+ removes one of the most common objections to running Pulse campaigns: that you're paying a premium for placement but flying blind on attention. Now you can set a secondary goal for 6-second view-through and optimise toward it within the same reservation buy.

That makes Pulse Core more defensible in performance-focused media plans. Where previously you'd brief Pulse as a brand awareness play and keep your performance budget separate, View+ lets you report both brand environment and attention metrics from the same line.

It also reflects how platform advertising is evolving in 2026. AI is reshaping brand safety by increasing risks in relation to content adjacency, misinformation, and authenticity while simultaneously improving control tools. As automation scales, marketers must balance performance gains with trust, taking more ownership amid inconsistent platform governance. View+ is part of that response, offering advertisers a way to chase performance without abandoning the content-adjacency controls that brand-safety-conscious teams now treat as non-negotiable.

The practical takeaway: if you're already running Pulse Core campaigns and paying the CPM premium for top-tier adjacency, toggling View+ on gives you a performance optimisation layer at no additional structural cost. The question then becomes whether the algorithm can find enough attentive users within that constrained inventory pool to make the optimisation meaningful. TikTok hasn't published View+ performance benchmarks yet, so early adopters will be writing the playbook.

The brand safety and performance trade-off is narrowing

In today's fast-paced digital ecosystem, every ad placement is essentially a bet on context. Landing an advertisement next to the wrong content can inflict reputational damage that far outweighs any short-term campaign gains. Because of these high stakes, brand safety and brand suitability have shifted from mundane checkboxes to strategic priorities.

View+ is notable because it signals TikTok believes that trade-off can shrink. The traditional model forced advertisers to choose: optimise for reach and performance in open inventory, or pay more for premium, brand-safe placements and accept lower volume and less granular targeting. View+ offers a third path, where brand-safe placement and performance optimisation coexist.

Whether that holds up in practice depends on how much 6-second-attentive inventory exists within Pulse Core's already-restricted pool. If the feature works, expect other platforms to follow with similar layered optimisation options on their own premium or publisher-direct inventory. If adoption is slow or performance underwhelms, it suggests the tension between safety and performance remains structural, not just a product design problem.

For now, View+ is a feature worth testing if you have Pulse access and US or Canadian spend. It won't fix a weak creative or an audience mismatch, but it does give performance-minded teams a reason to stop treating Pulse Core as brand-only budget.
